Pasta!

So while i was on the cruise, My taste buds were delighted to find that every night there was a Pasta Bar.
There was always 4 selections of Pasta to choose from, then while it was boiling they would ask you what veggies you wanted?
There was everything from mushrooms, peppers, onions, spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, peas, artichokes, bacon, chicken, etc....
They would then saute your choices in a pan, and when the pasta was done they would add it in.
Then they asked what sauce you wanted?
There were always 4 or 5 different sauces to choose from.
Then you would top it off with grated cheese.
My God was it delicious!
So I noticed that every day that I had Pasta, I would have a blood sugar that was elevated by 10 - 15 points.
I also remembered my Dad telling me that when he had Pasta his blood sugar would go up as well.
Damn!
Heredity?
Probably so.
So, The moral of this story is that I will continue to eat Pasta, because it is delicious! However I will try to limit the quantity and the frequency. All things in moderation, Right?

Back from Vacation

Ok. I've been gone awhile. I had a wonderful time, but I am thrilled to be back.
I did "pretty good" with my eating. My blood sugars were usually about 10 points higher then I would have liked for them to be.
Most of my choices were not that bad, but I found that not only being out of my element hurt, but also with being around endless amounts of food at all times, it was difficult to keep portion size down.

So here goes with the blood sugars up until date.......

138, 120, 140, 135, 136, 117, 125, 115, 139, 107, 105, 126, 118, 135, 102, 104, 131, 129

Some were definitely not good, but I guess that since pre-insulin I was almost up to 400, they were OK.

I'm going to write a few more blogs about the trip so look for those soon.
I've been home for about a week and have not been submitting a daily blog, however I plan to start that again soon. Maybe tonight?

Got to get some photos in order!
Someday I hope to be a little more organized.

and by the way, if any of you get the chance to go to Hawaii you should. It is Beautiful!!!!

Day 71

Blood sugar 110.
Breakfast at Clarkie's.
Bridgette was our server and she suggested the spinach omelet which turned out to be very good.
Then dinner was with Jeff, Jd, and Kevin at District Five.
I had the grilled Chicken dinner and a couple of cocktails.
Then we went to see In The Heights, and afterwards I picked from the fridge.
So, I am leaving in the morning for a cruise to Hawaii with my parents.
I will not be able to blog for the next three weeks, however upon my return i will write a big Recap with lots of photos.
I promise to record my blood sugars, work out, and eat well.
I already have all of my insulin and medication packed, I have a workout sheet all printed, and I am excited about new and exciting foods.

Day 70

Blood Sugar 88.
I didn't eat the best food yesterday, but I did pretty good with quantity. Plus I didn't eat too much before I went to bed.
Today I hope I did the same.
I started by going to Chili's with Howard. I had the GRILLED BBQ CHICKEN SALAD
With applewood smoked bacon, corn relish, cilantro, cheddar, house-made ranch and a drizzle of BBQ sauce.
It is always delicious, and not too heavy, my plate was completely clean by the end.
Then later in the afternoon Nicole and I went to the New China Buffet. I shouldn't make a habit out of going to buffets, however I did pretty good by having one plate, and then going back for an even smaller plate and then being done.
This kept me full until work. During work I had half of Jeffs protein bar, and then after work I picked a little of one of Pom's Stuffed Peppers, a few potatoes that Nicole had made, and a couple of bites of cake.
I will let you know how tomorrow goes.

Day 69

Blood sugar 107.
Today was beverage meeting and bar clean up, which meant getting up early.
So the fact that I might have not slept 8 hours, and still had a reading of 107 was very pleasing.
After the meeting, most of the staff went next door to Whiskey river. I had one cocktail and one shot, and I also had Chicken fingers and a few french fries.
Then home for a nap, afterwards I had a few pickings of leftovers from the fridge.
Then for dinner Ashton and i went to Graffiti Junktion where i had a double expresso Vodka and a burger with Bleu Cheese and avocado with fries.
Then a night of dancing at I Bar. I might have had 3 more cocktails, however I feel like I danced them off pretty well.

Day 68

Blood sugar 111. With all that I ate the day before I am quite surprised, yet quite pleased.
Today was a lunch with Nicole at the Greek Corner, I had the Gyro sandwich with greek salad.
I love it there and I could eat it over and over.
For dinner Jeff, addison and i went to 4R smokehouse.
Rather then getting a meat combo plate, i just got side items.
Cornbread salad, Mac & Cheese, Collards, Sweet Potato Casserole, Smoked Jalapenos and a red velvet cupcake (I only ate half of it)
This restaurant sure has become a quick favorite of mine.
Then to the bar for a party for Laura and Hikmet where I had a couple of vodka cocktails, and followed at home by some red wine, some party leftovers and some snacks that Mark had brought over.
I still have a bit of a headache, possibly by the vodka and wine combination, but also probably from the sunburn I got the day before at the strawberry festival.

Day 67

Blood Sugar 119.
Today I ate a lot of Crap! It was indeed delicious, But it was definitely CRAP!
I'm not expecting a low blood sugar tomorrow.....
Mark and I drove to Plant City today to go to the Strawberry Festival.
We found that it had very little to do with Strawberries, and was basically just a fair.
and it being a fair meant "Fair Food"
I started with a corn dog. they came in small (regular length), medium (2 hot dog lengths), and large (3 hot dog lengths)
I was completely sensible (sarcasm) and got the medium.
Then we immediately went to the booth that said "Chocolate dipt Bacon" and ordered some.
Chocolate and Bacon! How could I resist? Although I do wish that the chocolate dipping sauce had tasted better.
Now I would like to justify myself by saying that everything that I will mention for the rest of the day we shared, so it only counts as half.... (again, sarcasm)
Let's see there was a marshmallow Kabob, grilled corn on the cob, a lemonade, actually I think that might be it.
What? No funnel cake?
But then on our way back to Orlando we stopped at the Pulse in Lakeland for a couple of Vodkas with Jarrod.
Then at work I had some hor devours from a birthday party that was going on and a South Beach diet Cereal Bar.
and then when I got home, to complete the day I had some almonds, some Cheetos and some peanut M&Ms.
Do you suppose that the fact that I have had a headache for the last couple of hours could have anything to do with all of the CRAP that i ate?
Well, I know that there are plans for BBQ tomorrow so I will keep you informed.
Hopefully I can manage to squeeze in a vegetable or two, and not eat all things breaded and deep fried!
Thanks for reading!
