Day 71

Blood sugar 110.
Breakfast at Clarkie's.
Bridgette was our server and she suggested the spinach omelet which turned out to be very good.
Then dinner was with Jeff, Jd, and Kevin at District Five.
I had the grilled Chicken dinner and a couple of cocktails.
Then we went to see In The Heights, and afterwards I picked from the fridge.
So, I am leaving in the morning for a cruise to Hawaii with my parents.
I will not be able to blog for the next three weeks, however upon my return i will write a big Recap with lots of photos.
I promise to record my blood sugars, work out, and eat well.
I already have all of my insulin and medication packed, I have a workout sheet all printed, and I am excited about new and exciting foods.

Day 70

Blood Sugar 88.
I didn't eat the best food yesterday, but I did pretty good with quantity. Plus I didn't eat too much before I went to bed.
Today I hope I did the same.
I started by going to Chili's with Howard. I had the GRILLED BBQ CHICKEN SALAD
With applewood smoked bacon, corn relish, cilantro, cheddar, house-made ranch and a drizzle of BBQ sauce.
It is always delicious, and not too heavy, my plate was completely clean by the end.
Then later in the afternoon Nicole and I went to the New China Buffet. I shouldn't make a habit out of going to buffets, however I did pretty good by having one plate, and then going back for an even smaller plate and then being done.
This kept me full until work. During work I had half of Jeffs protein bar, and then after work I picked a little of one of Pom's Stuffed Peppers, a few potatoes that Nicole had made, and a couple of bites of cake.
I will let you know how tomorrow goes.

Day 69

Blood sugar 107.
Today was beverage meeting and bar clean up, which meant getting up early.
So the fact that I might have not slept 8 hours, and still had a reading of 107 was very pleasing.
After the meeting, most of the staff went next door to Whiskey river. I had one cocktail and one shot, and I also had Chicken fingers and a few french fries.
Then home for a nap, afterwards I had a few pickings of leftovers from the fridge.
Then for dinner Ashton and i went to Graffiti Junktion where i had a double expresso Vodka and a burger with Bleu Cheese and avocado with fries.
Then a night of dancing at I Bar. I might have had 3 more cocktails, however I feel like I danced them off pretty well.

Day 68

Blood sugar 111. With all that I ate the day before I am quite surprised, yet quite pleased.
Today was a lunch with Nicole at the Greek Corner, I had the Gyro sandwich with greek salad.
I love it there and I could eat it over and over.
For dinner Jeff, addison and i went to 4R smokehouse.
Rather then getting a meat combo plate, i just got side items.
Cornbread salad, Mac & Cheese, Collards, Sweet Potato Casserole, Smoked Jalapenos and a red velvet cupcake (I only ate half of it)
This restaurant sure has become a quick favorite of mine.
Then to the bar for a party for Laura and Hikmet where I had a couple of vodka cocktails, and followed at home by some red wine, some party leftovers and some snacks that Mark had brought over.
I still have a bit of a headache, possibly by the vodka and wine combination, but also probably from the sunburn I got the day before at the strawberry festival.

Day 67

Blood Sugar 119.
Today I ate a lot of Crap! It was indeed delicious, But it was definitely CRAP!
I'm not expecting a low blood sugar tomorrow.....
Mark and I drove to Plant City today to go to the Strawberry Festival.
We found that it had very little to do with Strawberries, and was basically just a fair.
and it being a fair meant "Fair Food"
I started with a corn dog. they came in small (regular length), medium (2 hot dog lengths), and large (3 hot dog lengths)
I was completely sensible (sarcasm) and got the medium.
Then we immediately went to the booth that said "Chocolate dipt Bacon" and ordered some.
Chocolate and Bacon! How could I resist? Although I do wish that the chocolate dipping sauce had tasted better.
Now I would like to justify myself by saying that everything that I will mention for the rest of the day we shared, so it only counts as half.... (again, sarcasm)
Let's see there was a marshmallow Kabob, grilled corn on the cob, a lemonade, actually I think that might be it.
What? No funnel cake?
But then on our way back to Orlando we stopped at the Pulse in Lakeland for a couple of Vodkas with Jarrod.
Then at work I had some hor devours from a birthday party that was going on and a South Beach diet Cereal Bar.
and then when I got home, to complete the day I had some almonds, some Cheetos and some peanut M&Ms.
Do you suppose that the fact that I have had a headache for the last couple of hours could have anything to do with all of the CRAP that i ate?
Well, I know that there are plans for BBQ tomorrow so I will keep you informed.
Hopefully I can manage to squeeze in a vegetable or two, and not eat all things breaded and deep fried!
Thanks for reading!

Day 66

Blood sugar 119.
Today started with Mark bringing over some fried chicken from Publix and some thin mint girl scout cookies.
I did eat three pieces of chicken, but I only had about 4 cookies.
Later my parents came over and my mom and I went to Toojay's. I usually get the same thing when I go there, and today was no exception. Chicken Capri - Tender chicken breast sauteed with mushrooms, artichoke hearts and capers in a delicate lemon butter white wine sauce. Served with roasted potatoes and fresh vegetable of the day. accompanied by the soup of the day which was cream of mushroom.
I ate about half of my meal, and ate the other half after work.
also during work I had a south beach diet cereal bar, and with my leftovers at the end of the day i had a handful of cashews.
Not sure what tomorrow will bring, but i sure am looking forward to it!

Day 65

Blood sugar 93. Much better than yesterday!
We went to brunch at Linda's Diner on Fairbanks.
It is a classic diner that has always been a favorite of mine.
I ordered what I usually get... the bacon and cheese omelet with home fries and a grilled english muffin and an unsweetened iced tea. I completely forgot to take a picture of it, and so when I was finished I took a picture of my empty plate.
I'm sure that at some point I will go back and you will see a picture of it eventually.
I just love a greasy spoon diner, and there are so many of them and I must go to them all.
I realize that they are not always the healthiest, so when i do go I have to try to eat sensibly for the rest of the day.
Did I?
Mark had brought me some Tandoori Chicken with Naan that I heated up before work, along with a bag of cashews.
During work I had my usual apple.
and when I got home after the bar I heated up some chili from the freezer, a few french fries, and a piece of chocolate chip cake from Whole foods.
I hope I didn't over do it before bed.
We will see tomorrow........

Day 64

Blood Sugar 134.
a little high (in fact this was the first time that it has exceeded 120 in 24 days)
I wonder if it was all of the pasta that I had eaten the day before? I did have a large helping as my last meal, and I know that pasta sometimes has that effect on me. It is a shame that I love it so much.
So, I must tell you that a few weeks ago I was driving by Wendy's and I saw a window advertisement for the new Bacon and Blue Cheese Burger. I have been craving it ever since. How could Wendy's be doing this to me? All things that I love on a burger! I have been resisting all of this time, but today I had a revelation.... What if this is a "for a limited time only" burger? Is it fair that I deprive my body of ever trying this? Would I be able to forgive myself if it was one day gone and I had never tried it?
I decided to give in to sin!
However, I made a deal with myself.... I got the combo with an unsweet tea, however instead of fries I got the side ceasar salad, and not only that but I only used about a third of the ceasar dressing packet. (That was me justifying myself)
It was delicious! and now I know what it tastes like, and if I never have it again it will be just fine. (No promises)
I then went to workout with Lynn! a good sweaty workout with an additional 35 minutes of cardio! Then I stopped by Whole Foods and got some dinner "to go" from their Hot Bar. a variety of Chicken and Rice, Grilled veggies, and a couple of Indian dishes. I also got a spinach, onion and cheese pie which I ate on the way home.
It was all very filling and tasty!
Then at the end of the day I had a bag of salted peanuts, three starburst and a glass of Red wine.
a Savory and delicious day!

Day 63

Blood Sugar 97.
I started the day with a salad. Walnuts, fresh mozzarella and dried cranberries on spring mix.
Then for an early dinner I met my parents at Buca Di Beppo. We had the FRIED MOZZARELLA Hand-breaded mozzarella fried golden brown and served on a bed of homemade marinara sauce, the APPLE GORGONZOLA SALAD Tart Granny Smith apples, spiced walnuts, dried cranberries and Gorgonzola cheese tossed with our fresh lettuce blend in our signature Italian vinaigrette and the PENNE SAN REMO Tender chicken breast, artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes and peas tossed with imported Italian penne pasta in a white wine cream sauce. They were all delicious and the leftovers got packed up and went home with me.
During work I had an apple and half of Jeff's Pure Protein bar, and after work I had the rest of the Buca and a bag of honey roasted peanuts.

Day 62

Blood Sugar 104.
Mark and i again went to Clarkie's Diner on Orange ave.
Last time i had breakfast, but this time I had lunch. Jose' brought me the Shepherd's Pie, which was a special of the day, with Collard Greens and cornbread. Although whenever I eat them I burp Collards all day, they were extremely delicious and I will gladly do it again. Later I went to Pom's house for spaghetti dinner. The cheese and cracker platter is always my downfall! I love it so much! and it is very hard for me to not shovel it in to my mouth. So I did enjoy it, however I don't think that I did too bad! Then when it came spaghetti time i was not disappointed! Delicious! Jeff's meatballs, Pom's Pasta and sauce, all completed with Danny's strawberry shortcake. a glass and a half of wine when I got home, It was a very good day!

Day 61

Fasting Blood sugar 68. a little low.
I feel that it is better to be a little low, rather than a little high, Is this true?
This blog is called Diabetes can be Delicious! Today definitely had delicious moments, however I don't think that I did very well with the diabetic side of it. I broke several of the rules.... I did not eat multiple small meals. I did not make the best choices on the food that i ate. I ate way too much fat, and did not drink enough water! As I type this I get a glass of water to increase todays' water intake. Much better.
So this morning i started with a bag of peanuts. Then I went and ran some errands and picked up Addison for our trip to tampa. We stopped for lunch at Sonny's. I use to go there quite often, and it use to be one of my favorites. I got the big deal special with a Beef Brisket sandwich on garlic bread with mac and cheese and an iced tea. Although it filled me up, I did not enjoy it like I use to.
Then off to Desiree's house for a photo shoot, after which we met Daphne and went to Lupton's. I have heard some of the girls from tampa talk about it but this was my first time there and I loved it! What is Lupton's you ask? The best way for me to describe it is a cross between soul food and country cookin, only it's a buffet! The website gives this description.....
BBQ Beef, Pork, Ribs, Chicken, Fried Chicken, Smoked Ham, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Crisp Cole Slaw, Collard Greens, Mashed Potatoes, Brown Gravy, Green Beans, Biscuits, Daily Special, Salad Bar, Fruit Bar, Cobbler Bar, Dessert Bar, Iced Tea, Coffee & Much More!
I had more then I should have, in fact I really shouldn't ever go to any "Buffet"
Oh well!
and then if that were not bad enough, we then went back to daphne's house for a bit and had honey roasted peanut/ cashew mix and girl scout cookies.
I am Bad, Bad, Bad!
I do feel glad that I don't do this all of the time, and I suppose that my food guilt for today is a good thing.
I hope I am back on track tomorrow.
I will be going back to the gym, and i will let you know how everything else goes.

Day 60

Blood Sugar 99.
Brunch at Harmoni.
I had Mediterranean Vegetable Flatbread $8.5
Seasonal Vegetables, Mozzarella, Ricotta-Goat, Balsamic with a Bistro salad.
Mark had Harmoni Tradition $9.5
House-Made Spaghetti and Meatballs.
We shared.
I believe our servers name was Chris (apologizes if I didn't remember correctly, I have moments of dumbness) and he was excellent.
We also had him bring out his favorite dessert, which was a deliciously decadent fruity cheesecake which was very thick, but not too sweet along with coffee.
I had to work a double today, and so when I took a break from the bar I had a bag of cheetos and some peanuts, then after work a granola bar and an eggplant parmesan sub from Panino's, which i only ate half of.
Good food today! Tomorrow a trip to Tampa, let's see how i do eating on the road.
