November 28th 2012

Since my sugar had dropped quite a bit from the previous day I decided to start the day with a big breakfast featuring the remaining Brie on Whole Wheat Crackers and a Canneloni.

Canneloni and Brie

Then after some paperwork, some stuff around the house and a nap I had another hearty meal for lunch.
another one of my self-proclaimed "famous" Thanksgiving Sandwiches and a slice of Pumpkin Pie (minus the crust)

Thanksgiving sandwich and Pumpkin Pie

Then I had a great workout with Lynn.
I then had about three hours before I had to be at work, and I sat in front of the TV and snacked (mistake)
I had Hummus and Chips, Popcorn and a Granola Bar.
Not that any of those things are bad, but I shouldn't have had all of them!

Cherry, Almond, Bleu Salad

Then after work I had a Salad Kit.
Cherry, Almond, Bleu Spinach Salad.
I only used about half of the dressing, but I ate the whole Salad!
It probably was intended to feed at least two (and probably three)
Once again - I need to be better at portion control!!!

November 27th 2012

I started with a bowl of Cereal with Greek Yogurt and a slice of Whole Wheat Toast with Pear Preserves.

Cereal with Yogurt, Toast with Pear Preserves

Then after some errands John and I went to Teak. I have a weakness for their Burgers - They are simply the best in Orlando and I splurged and had one. So Good!!!!

American Burger from Teak

When I got home Mark and I went for a 45 minute walk. I know that didn't remove the calories of the Burger - but every little bit helps.

Then around 6pm I went to work to decorate trees for Christmas.
They bought us all Pizza from Panino's for helping them decorate.
I had one slice of Veggie.

Veggie Pizza from Panino's

Then after I got home I had some Tortilla chips and Hummus while I watched TV
Then just before midnight I made some more Veggie Pizzas
(Broccoli, Carrots, Parsley, Sage and Sauce - No Cheese)
I had two small pieces with a Spinach Salad with the rest of the Indian Salad Condiment (Onion, Tomato, Cilantro, Lime)

Veggie Pizza and Salad

I'm hoping that the fasting Sugar is below 162, then I will at least know that I am improving slightly.
and the verdict is......
135
I did it!
Now I just have to get them under 120

November 26th 2012

Chicken Curry, Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce and Indian Salad Sonny's Soup and Salad Bar

Then I went to the Foot Doctor for my final appointment with a great review.
To celebrate I took John to Sonny's BBQ. The Food was really greasy and I regretted going there, but I did only eat just over half of my Sandwich.

Sonny's Pulled Pork Sandwich and Baked Beans

After buying some sliced Turkey I decided to make a Thanksgiving Sandwich around 8pm.
(Stuffing, Cranberry Sauce, Turkey, Goat Cheese and Potato Sticks on Wheat Bread - So Good!)

Thanksgiving Sandwich

Then just after midnight I had a Spinach Salad with Walnuts, Goat Cheese and a touch of Cranberry Sauce instead of Dressing.

The morning Fasting Blood Sugar verdict.....
162
Not as good as I want, but lower then the previous day!
I have got to start exercising more religiously!

November 23rd 2012

It is now the 26th and I'm just logging on to update.
I've been upset that I can no longer add photos (for free)
I just figured out a way to possibly add new photos (without paying) so I'm going to just create posts giving my fasting blood sugars. I really haven't kept good records of what I have been eating.
and by the looks of some of these numbers it must not have been very good.

Fasting Sugar for the 23rd....

November 22nd 2012

Today is Thanksgiving.
I really wish I could post more photos at this time.
I'm sure it won't be long before I bite the bullet and just pay the extra "Photo Storage" fee.
Thanksgiving Meal #1 at my parents (noon)
My plate consisted of small helpings of Turkey, Stuffing, Sweet Potatoes, Corn, Peas, Mac N Cheese, Carrots, a Roll and Cranberry Sauce.
I had small slivers of both pies.
I didn't tell my family which one was the "Diabetic Friendly" Pie and had them tell me which one they liked best.
The Sugar-Filled Pecan Pie (Trisha Yearwood's Recipe) won hands down!!!!
Thanksgiving Meal #2 at Joel's house (4pm)
This time my plate had small helpings of Turkey, Ham, Gravy, Sweet Potatoes, Cranberry Sauce, Stuffing, Mac N Cheese, and Green Beans.
a small piece of Pumpkin Pie and two cocktails.
Thanksgiving Meal #3 at Pom's house (8pm)
YES, I HAD THREE DIFFERENT THANKSGIVING MEALS!
Turkey, Gravy, Green Bean Casserole, Sweet Potatoes, Cranberry Sauce, Stuffing, Scalloped Potatoes,  and Corn.
She also had a Chocolate Pecan Pie and a Pumpkin Nutmeg Pie (duh, I tried both)
morning Sugar was high.
I was not surprised.

November 21st 2012

Made the Pies for the following day (Thanksgiving)
Started the day with Cereal, Yogurt and Fruit.
Went to the gym and worked out with Lynn.
Came home and made some Guacamole Tacos with Sauteed Onions and Peppers.
Then before work I had half of a Grilled Vegetable Sandwich (Portobello, Squash, Asparagus, Spinach and Tomato)
After work I had some Chips and Hummus
morning blood sugar was as low as it has been in a minute.....
146
I've really got to get these back in to range

November 20th 2012

I started the day when Daphne and I went to the Cheesecake Factory.
along with some of the complimentary Bread I had the Crispy Chicken Costoletta.
I ate one of the Chicken Breast pieces and the Asparagus.
The rest I had them take home.
Then we met another friend for dinner at a Greek/ Italian place.
I had Mousakka which came with a bowl of Black Bean soup and a side of grilled Eggplant.
Way too much food, but really delicious.
Then when I arrived back to Orlando I met Addison for a trip to WalMart.
We also stopped by WaWa for one of my BLTs.
Not a good day of healthy eating.
The next morning when I got up I baked two different Pecan Pies (one was a diabetic recipe) for Thanksgiving the next day.
I started tasting my batter and the Pecans before I took my blood sugar, so I didn't even bother checking it.
Probably a good thing..... It wouldn't have been a good reading.
Why is it that I have been on a bad streak lately?
I know being out of town is difficult, especially when there is a lot of eating out.
I've got to be better!

November 19th 2012

I have just found out that I have run out of "free photo storage" for this account.
I don't feel like paying for any additional storage at this time, so unfortunately I cannot include photos of my meals for a little while.
Monday, Nov 19th I picked up my friend Ginger for a business lunch.
We went to Yellow Dog Eats, I had "The Rufus" which is an overstuffed Pulled Pork Sandwich with a side of Mozzarella/ Tomato salad.
This is one of my favorite restaurants!
Then off to Tampa for a show.
Afterwards Daphne and I drove through Taco Bell where I got entirely too much food.
I had only eaten a large, late lunch, and now I am pigging out on Taco Bell.
This is NOT a good diabetic lifestyle, not is it a healthy lifestyle for anyone!
In the morning my Blood Sugar was 154.

November 18th 2012

The next morning was the post wedding Brunch.
Delicious! but yet again I stuck to just one plate.

Then a couple more pieces of Veggie Pizza before work.
As soon as I got to work however, everything went to crap.
My boss gave me a Fried Apple Pie from Popeyes.

Then half way through my shift there was a birthday party and I ate some more there - Fried Mozzarella Sticks, and Onion Ring and some Quesadilla. Terrible!

and then after work John wanted me to drive him through Checker's, and he bought me a Chicken Roadhouse Sandwich.
Of course I shouldn't have eaten any of these things.
(It was tasty though)
Sundays, being my long shift, I really need to have better food management skills.

November 17th 2012

Today I was to be at a wedding at 5pm
I knew that I would be eating questionable food later so I wanted to have a semi-healthy start.
Breakfast was a Banana, a small handful of Walnuts, some Pita chips and Hummus.

Lunch was two pieces of Veggie Pizza

At the wedding there were minimal appetizers served, and then for dinner there was a buffet.

I just had one plate, and other then a couple of bites I avoided the Desserts.

I did have about 3 drinks over the course of the evening.
Afterwards we went out dancing, however I still did not have the greatest Blood Sugar the next morning.
I shouldn't have had the drinks.

November 16th 2012

I started with a craving for traditional Breakfast, so I ended up deciding on a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Sandwich.
It sounded so good, but in actually the Bread was too big, and I tried to cook the Bacon, Egg and Cheese part too fast and it ended up being Gross.
I ended up throwing half of it away and just having a Banana
Could I be loosing my taste for Bacon?
I certainly don't eat it like I use to.

for Lunch I did much better.
I took some Naan Breads and Vegetables out of the Freezer
(I also took my time)
and made some Veggie Pizzas (No Cheese)
I cut each one in to 4 pieces.
I ate 2 pieces so really that was just half of one Pizza (and it was plenty)

Then off to the Food Tasting....
Jack in the Park (a Special Olympics Charity Fundraiser)

There were 15 booths of local restaurants that offered tastings of their menus.
I didn't make a Total Pig of myself this time (Like I did at the last one) and I was more selective of what I sampled.
I also didn't leave feeling stuffed or tired.

However after work I was quite hungry.
I was driving John home, and he offered to buy me a sandwich at WaWa.
(How could I refuse a free sandwich? Although I should have)

My morning sugar....

148

This is even higher then the previous day!
I also only got about 4 hours of sleep (which I know can also effect your blood sugar)
I need to sleep longer.
I need to eat smaller quantities as my last meal of the day.
I need to step up the exercise.
I need to be better in general.
I think I'm gonna lay down for a nap.

November 15th 2012

Breakfast was a Quesadilla... Peppers and Onions, Cheddar, Guacamole on Whole Wheat Tortillas.

Then while out running some errands we went to Sweet Tomatoes for lunch
(I had two meal vouchers so it didn't cost us anything)
I usually make fairly decent choices when I eat there, but my problem at Sweet Tomatoes is always quantity.
So many good things to choose from, and I want to try them all!

In the evening Mark and I went to a bridal shower.

I just picked at the food for the most part, however the groom's Mom made these homemade candied Nuts that were to die for, and there was also a Baked Brie with a warm Caramel Sauce and Pecans.
I could not stop eating them, they were right there and they were tempting me beyond my limits.

Then we I got home I finished up the Guacamole with some chips And THEN had a bowl of Cereal!
Why can't I just quit while I am ahead?

Yesterday I went DOWN 25 points, but the next morning I jumped back UP 25 points.

143
There is very little room for slipping when it comes to consistent Blood Sugars.
and tomorrow I am going to another Food Tasting, I wonder how I will do?

November 14th 2012

Today started with a phone call. My friends Vanessa and William were in town and wanted to go to lunch.
I decided to take them to one of my favorites - Yellow Dog Eats
I normally get one of their over-stuffed Pulled Pork Sandwiches, however this time I decided to go slightly less heavy and get what I think was called "The Holy Crap"
Turkey Breast, Bacon, Avocado, Red Onion and Goat Cheese pressed on Multigrain Bread.
I did miss the Pulled Pork, but this sandwich was very delicious!

Then I went to work out with Lynn, and afterwards I had an Apple
When Mark got home he offered me half of his Grilled Vegetable Sandwich that he brought home from work.
I had just made some more Guacamole, so I took the sandwich half, cut it in half and spread Guacamole on it and saved the other half for after the bar.

Then off to Wine and Cheese class with Tonda (from Tonda's Kitchen) and Emily Ellyn.

The Cheese and Wine class was interesting and informative, and I had fun making new friends and eating all of that delicious Cheese.
I also had several Wine samplings, something that I have been trying to avoid (for the most part)
Not sure how this will effect my Blood Sugar.

After the night of work I finished the rest of the Grilled Veggie Sandwich from the fridge.
Did I mention the ingredients? Asparagus, Portobello, Roasted Red Peppers and Grilled Onions.
Super Yummy!

At the point of going to bed I felt like my morning Sugar was going to be OK.
(I went to bed a little hungry)

Well, I guess going to bed a little hungry paid off.
I'm down 25 points from the previous day.

November 13th 2012

Rather then my usual Cereal for breakfast, today I made a Peanut butter and Banana Sandwich.

Then I had to be at work to clean and for a meeting.
Four of us had all planned on going to lunch at Graffiti Junktion afterwards.
We started with a couple of appetizers Potato Skins and Zucchini Fries.
Can't say that this was a healthy choice, but I did limit myself to one potato and 4 Zucchini Fries.
(I realize that this does not justify it)

Then for my Burger....
My God I LOVE their Burgers!
I actually just ordered a B.L.T. (the same thing without the 1/2 lb. Beef Patty or the Cheese)
This was my way of justifying my eating
(I seem to be able to justify many things don't I?)

I ate all of my sandwich, but i only ate about a third of the Fries
(I had a Potato and Zucchini Fries before hand which allowed me not to stop after eating 10-15, that's the only way I had enough self control)

Although everything tasted good, It gave me Diarrhea.
(sorry to be so vulgar)

Later in the evening Mark and I went shopping at Costco
We decided to just have dinner there, so i had a Chicken Cesar Salad.
I only used about half of the Dressing Cup.

Later for a snack I had some cheese Straws that Mark's Mom had made with an individual serving size container of Hummus

Then around midnight for my final meal I heated up the last Canneloni. I knew that Pasta was a terrible thing to eat before bed, but I wanted to finish it up and clean out the fridge.

I also had some Avocados that my friend grew in his back yard.
I mashed one up with a little Salt and Pepper and ate it with some Tortilla Chips.
I wasn't expecting a low sugar reading in the morning.

I got a new Blood Sugar Meter from Publix.
Ever since I was diagnosed with Diabetes I have been using a One Touch Meter, however Publix has much cheaper Testing Strips so I think I will be going that route to save money.

I opened my new Meter and took my blood sugar which was 143.
I still had some strips for my old meter and I took it again with that one to make sure the new one was accurate.
Once again 143. It must be pretty accurate.

No more Pasta before bed.
If I must have Pasta it should be for lunch (and in small quantities)

Final results for the day.....

143

November 12th 2012

A busy day with a lot of running all over town.
I started with (what seems to have become my usual) a big bowl of Cereal.

Then I picked up John and we went to Oviedo where I has an appointment with the Foot Doctor.
I had a Groupon for the Hummus House which was about to expire so we used that on lunch.

I started with their homemade Pita chips with their Guacamole Hummus
It was creamy and delicious and the Chips were crispy and well seasoned.

Then I had their Veggie Falafel Pita.
Spinach, Lettuce, Tomato and Garlic Hummus, also very nice.

Then around 5:30pm I went with some friends to Nikki's Place.
This is a Soul Food restaurant and it is quite good - but Not At All Diabetic Friendly.
I had the Vegetable Plate (I just didn't feel like having Meat).
Baked Beans, Mac-N-Cheese and Black Eyed Peas.
(After this I'm going to have to eat good later in order to stay on track)

So my final meal of the evening was a simple Spinach Salad with Walnuts and Feta.

Morning Blood Sugar ended up being OK....

November 11th 2012

Started with a bowl of Cereal while I did a quick housecleaning before an old friend of mine came over.

Once she got here we talked and caught up and ordered a Pizza
(not healthy)

Ham and Pineapple - I had two pieces.

Then just before work I had another Canneloni (just one)

I started work at 5pm, and although during my 10 hour shift I did have a Granola Bar, I really should have eaten something more.

Sundays are my long shift at work, and I really need to better prepare myself in the future.

At 2am I broke down and went to the vending machine for a bag of Cheetos
(terrible- I know)

and to make it even worse when I got home I ate the two remaining slices of Pizza.
I just tore in to them like I was an animal who had just gotten his daily food!

I couldn't help myself.

As for my fasting blood sugar the following morning it was a little high, but not as high I as I was expecting.

November 10th 2012

Breakfast around noon- an Omelet with Bell Peppers, Zucchini, Onions and Cheddar served with Rosemary Potatoes and a slice of Wheat Toast with Sugar Free Apricot Jam

Around 2pm I had a bowl of Microwave Popcorn

I also walked for about 20 minutes

I made a new recipe from my Cuisine at Home Magazine - Butternut Squash and Sausage Canneloni
I just ate two of them at 5pm

Then just before work at 8pm I had a Spinach Salad with the rest of my homemade Orange/Agave Dressing topped with a few candied Walnuts and some Goat Cheese

During work around midnight I had a Granola Bar

Then when I got home I had another one of my (seems to be nightly now) Naan Bread Pizzas, tonight it was topped with Turkey Sausage, Zucchini and Parmesan

Morning Fasting Sugar....
Hooray.... Back in range......

117

November 9th 2012

I wanted to start out the day with a heartier breakfast then just a bowl of Cereal.
So I added a piece of Toast with Peanut Butter, and sliced up a Banana and added that to both the Toast and the Cereal.
It was a nice tasty way to start me out.

Then I drove John to work, and in return he took me to lunch.
He said that he wanted to go to the Mexican Buffet.
(Great, another Buffet, we all know that self control is not my strength)
So I selected my plates with a different approach.
Normally when I go there I have about 3 plates, and I cover everything with Cheese and Sour Cream.
This time for my first plate I had my Chimichanga (but only one instead of three)
I also had my usual Double Decker Taco, but this time I selected the Grilled Chicken and Fajita Vegetables rather then the Ground Beef, and I didn't add Cheese or Sour Cream.
The Guacamole was fresh so I got a decent sized portion of that - good stuff!

My second plate I got another Chicken Fajita Taco with Guacamole, but this time it was not a Double Decker.
I also had a couple of Plantains, a small square of Flan and some Fruit.
This actually ended up being enough, and I left content.

Then before work I made myself a Grilled Veggie Sandwich (Onions, Zucchini, Bell Peppers and Cheese) on Rye.
along with it I finished up Dea's Vegetarian Chili!
Delicious!
I also got on the Treadmill for 30 minutes.

during work I had a Granola Bar,
and when I got home I made another Naan Bread Pizza topped with Zucchini, Tomatoes, Parmesan and Arugula.

Morning sugar....

133
Not as good as I was hoping, but still 2 points better then the previous day
